How to Makeover Your Garage for Less than $2,000 in 4 Days
Our family is pretty organized, but having an organized garage seemed impossible. Every few months my husband would re-organize and clean out the garage, but within a week it was a disaster again. A garage makeover was on our wish list for a while, I even went as far as getting estimates, but there was no way I was going to spend $4,000-$5,000 on a garage makeover.
I assumed the storage cabinets and labor would be the most expensive part, but I honestly had no idea, so I started to do some research. I quickly realized there was a slim chance of getting a garage makeover with a budget of $2,000 even if we did the labor ourselves. HOWEVER never say never, by doing extensive research, shopping sale items, using online coupon codes and in-store coupons we made over our garage for less than $2,000 and did not settle for inferior products.
The RETAIL PRICE for all of the materials would have been $3,192.59, which was well above our budget, but with smart shopping, we saved over 37% and came in right under budget at $1,998.93.
So how did we Makeover our Garage for Less than $2,000 in 4 Days?
FlowWall Cabinets Retail: $2,918.97
The main component of our garage makeover was the cabinets, which were also the most expensive. After doing research online my husband and I decided the FlowWall system would work best for our storage needs. However the prices were well above our budget, so I searched online for a coupon code and after several failed attempts finally found one for 30% off my entire order. While 30% was a huge discount the cabinets were still above our budget, but later that week the cabinets we wanted went on sale!!!
Retail: $2,918.97 (includes shipping)
Sale Price: $2,479.96 (includes shipping)
30% Off Coupon Code: $1,765.97 (includes shipping)
Total Cost for FlowWall Cabinets: $1765.97
Garage Floor Paint Retail: $165.36
The second most expensive purchase for our garage makeover was the floor paint. We purchased two Behr Premium Floor Coating Kits since we have a two-car garage and the kits included EVERYTHING we needed except an extension handle for the roller, which we had. I honestly thought painting the garage floor would be a week-long process, but it wasn’t. My husband cleaned the floor Saturday morning, applied the first coat of paint that afternoon, a second coat that evening and by morning the floor was dry enough to walk on.
Retail: 165.36
Sale Price: $141.98 (includes tax)
Total Cost for Behr Premium Floor Coating Kits: $141.98
Espresso Shoe Racks Retail $68.85
While we already had a white shoe rack it was pretty beat up, so we decided to replace it with inexpensive shelves from Target. They were so easy to assemble it took our boys less than 45 minutes to build all five shelves.
Retail: $68.85
Sale Price: $61.96
10% Off Cartwheel Discount: $55.76 (includes tax)
Total Cost for Target Shoe Racks: $55.76
Plastic Bag Holder Retail: $10.59
We had a big net that held our plastic bags, but after seeing this sleek bag holder that mounted to the wall I had to get it.
Retail: $10.59
Bed Bath and Beyond 20% Off Coupon: $8.47 (includes tax)
Total Cost for Bed Bath and Beyond Plastic Bag Holder: $8.47
Storage Basket Retail: $13.77
We decided to add a decorative basket on top of the shoe rack for additional storage. At the moment it holds some soccer gear, like shinguard’s, shinguard sleeves along with extra laces for their cleats.
Retail: $13.77
15% Off Cartwheel Discount: $11.70
Total Cost for the Storage Basket: $11.70
Wall Hooks Retail: $15.05
While FlowWall has special hooks for their panels I was able to find an alternative at Home Depot that gets the job done for a fraction of the price.
Retail: $15.05
Total cost for Wall Hooks: $15.05
Wall Paint: $0
I had leftover wall paint from a previous project, so we didn’t have to purchase wall paint and were able to save ourselves $30-$40.
Labor: $0
My amazing husband and boys saved us so much money doing all of the labor, which is a huge factor to being able to complete our garage makeover for less than $2,000 in 4 days.
Garage Makeover Schedule:
Thursday: Emptied garage
Friday: Painted garage walls and assembled cabinet boxes
Saturday: Installed FlowWall panels to the wall and painted the floor
Sunday: Hung the cabinets, installed the cabinet doors, and put everything away

Hi Michelle, Your new garage looks amazing – I especially like the new floor paint. Were the cabinets easy to mount on the wall?
Ryan the cabinets were super easy to put together and install, I highly recommend them.
