Looking to replace your builder-grade stair railing with something clean and modern? I recently did exactly that, and it ended up being one of my favorite upgrades after updating our floors.

I had wanted to replace our stair railing for a long time, but it stayed at the bottom of the renovation list. That changed after we replaced the floors throughout our home. Shortly after, I came across a home listed for sale that had a beautiful black metal stair railing, and it completely changed the look of the space. In that moment, a new stair railing went from the bottom of our list to the top.

To my surprise, the project was more affordable than I anticipated, but the quotes varied dramatically. The highest quote was roughly triple the lowest quote. I also know from experience that the cheapest option is not always the best, and the most expensive option is not always worth it.

So I did what I always do before hiring a contractor. I looked into each company carefully.

1. I noted how responsive each company was and whether they answered my questions clearly.
2. I read as many online reviews as I could find.
3. I reviewed before-and-after photos of their previous work.
4. I confirmed they were licensed and insured.

The Process of Replacing Our Stair Railing

The process of replacing our stair railing was much easier than I expected, and Michael made it feel straightforward from start to finish.

First, he came to our home to measure and confirm the style and design we wanted. After that, the railing took about 2 to 3 weeks to fabricate. Once it was ready, Michael and his crew removed the old railing and installed the new one. The installation took 2 days.
